Through this vision, we encourage every child to Be Brave, Be Kind and Be Your Best, inspiring them to approach learning with curiosity, determination and joy.

Our curriculum is ambitious for every child. Carefully designed and thoughtfully sequenced, it equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary they need to succeed, while nurturing confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning. We have high aspirations for all learners and believe that every child can flourish, whatever their starting point.

We are proud of our rural community and use our local environment as a starting point for learning, helping children develop a strong sense of belonging and pride in where they live. At the same time, our curriculum broadens horizons, introducing pupils to the rich diversity of the wider world and encouraging them to think deeply, ask questions, embrace new experiences and show compassion and respect for others.

Learning at Skirlaugh is active, memorable and filled with joy. Through practical experiences, outdoor learning, educational visits, visitors and opportunities to explore beyond the classroom, we bring learning to life and create lasting memories that inspire children to aim high and achieve their very best.

By the time our pupils leave us, we want them to be knowledgeable, confident and compassionate young people who are well prepared for the next stage of their education. Above all, we want them to leave with the courage to embrace new challenges, the kindness to make a positive difference, and the aspiration to work at everything they do with all their heart.
