Welcome from The Chair

Welcome to Skirlaugh Primary School.

My name is Joanne Briggs and I am a Parent Governor for Skirlaugh Primary School. As elected Chair of the Governing Body I would like to welcome you to our school.

At Skirlaugh Primary we are proud to offer a caring Christian atmosphere where pupils are encouraged to treat each other with respect, to build strong friendships, to persevere in achieving their best possible outcomes and demonstrate tolerance and forgiveness which we would want for ourselves. We want all our children to develop to their full potential both academically and socially.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and aim for enjoyment in learning. The staff are
experienced and dedicated and work in partnership with parents and children so that we can
provide the children with the best education possible.

The role of the Board of Governors is to work closely with the Headteacher and staff to provide the very best education that we can for the children of our school. We are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the school, for ensuring
that the budget is managed prudently and for supporting our excellent staff. As an effective team, with a range of strengths from different interests and backgrounds; we regularly visit school both in and out of school hours. Each Governor plays a group role of the full Governing Body but also an individual role in specialised areas.

As a school we operate an ‘open door’ policy where parents, friends and governors are always welcome to come into school. Governors are always contactable via the Governor Comment box located in the entrance.

By visiting the pages of our website you will see further detail on the many aspects of school life. If you are a prospective parent we hope that these pages will give you all the information you need. If you would like to visit the school, please contact us to make an appointment where by a member of staff will be happy to show you around.

Kind regards

Joanne Briggs
